This ikat is a deadstock of unknown origin but my guess is from India or Guatemala. Limited quantity and unable to be restocked. So, once its gone, its gone! The colors of this fabric are beautiful and rich and there is a natural slubbiness and texture to this handwoven fabric. It is opaque and on the medium side of light weight making it perfect for skirts and dresses, or a blouse with a dramatic sleeve. Please note that this fabric is very narrow due to being woven on a traditional loom (at 36 inches) and may not be suitable for all patterns or sizes. You will likely need to order more to complete your project and/or cut your pattern out flat, not on the fold.
Ikat fabric is a dyeing technique that uses resist sections of yarn to create unique patterns prior to weaving. The resist dyed yarn is then woven on a handloom, using no electricity, instead of on a mechanical powerloom.
Please note: Due to the hand dyed and woven nature of this fabric some irregularities in weave and print can occur, including slubs or "blurriness" of the pattern. These are not flaws but part of the unique process under which your fabric is made.
Suitable for tops, shirts, dresses, skirts, playsuits, jumpsuits, and looser fitting shorts or trousers.
Pattern suggestions: Strata Top, Rushcutter Dress, Teahouse dress, Zadie Jumpsuit, Metamorphic Dress, Wiksten Shift Top/Dress, or Gypsum Skirt.
